Our Commitment to a Sustainable Future

Version: 3.0
Effective Date: 29 July 2026
Policy Owner: Wayne Washbrook-Christophers, Sole Director and Managing Director

Review: At least annually, or sooner following significant legal, environmental or operational change

At Cleanial Ltd, we recognise our responsibility to minimise the environmental impact of our operations and contribute positively to the communities and environments in which we work.

As a professional commercial cleaning and facilities support business, sustainability forms an important part of how we select products, manage resources, plan our operations and work with our clients, employees and suppliers.

Our Green & Environmental Policy provides the framework for continually reducing our environmental footprint while delivering safe, reliable and effective services.

Our Environmental Commitments

Cleanial Ltd is committed to:

  • Minimising our environmental footprint and reducing unnecessary resource consumption.

  • Reducing waste through the principles of reduce, reuse and recycle.

  • Using environmentally responsible cleaning products and systems wherever they are suitable for the task.

  • Improving energy and water efficiency within our operations.

  • Reducing unnecessary travel and associated emissions.

  • Considering environmental and ethical factors when purchasing products and services.

  • Supporting tree planting and wider environmental initiatives.

  • Promoting environmental awareness among our employees, clients and suppliers.

  • Complying with applicable environmental legislation and requirements.

  • Continually reviewing and improving our environmental performance.

1. Carbon Footprint Reduction

We aim to reduce the carbon impact associated with our cleaning operations, premises, transport and purchasing decisions.

Measures include:

  • Using energy efficient lighting and equipment where practicable.

  • Switching off lighting, electrical equipment and chargers when not required.

  • Considering energy consumption when purchasing or replacing equipment.

  • Optimising working routes to reduce unnecessary journeys.

  • Using virtual meetings where appropriate to avoid unnecessary travel.

  • Encouraging walking, cycling, public transport and car sharing where practical.

  • Considering electric and hybrid vehicles for company use where operationally suitable.

  • Working with clients and suppliers to identify opportunities for further carbon reduction.

Environmental considerations form part of our operational decision making and will continue to develop as Cleanial grows.

2. Waste Reduction and Circular Use

Cleanial follows the principles of reduce, reuse and recycle.

We seek to prevent waste before it is created by:

  • Reducing unnecessary printing and using digital systems wherever practical.

  • Selecting durable products and equipment with an appropriate service life.

  • Reusing materials, containers and equipment where this can be carried out safely.

  • Reducing unnecessary single use items.

  • Separating recyclable waste wherever suitable facilities are available.

  • Using clearly identified recycling streams where appropriate.

  • Working with suitable recycling and waste providers.

  • Reviewing opportunities to repair equipment rather than automatically replacing it.

Cleaning products, containers and equipment are managed in accordance with relevant safety, COSHH and environmental requirements.

3. Sustainable Procurement

Environmental and ethical considerations form part of Cleanial's purchasing decisions.

Where reasonably practicable, we will prioritise products and suppliers that demonstrate:

  • Reduced environmental impact.

  • Responsible and ethical sourcing.

  • Recycled or sustainably sourced materials.

  • Reduced or recyclable packaging.

  • Efficient manufacturing and distribution.

  • Appropriate environmental standards.

  • Responsible labour practices.

  • Local sourcing where this provides a suitable and commercially viable option.

We also encourage our suppliers to consider their own environmental impact and continually improve the sustainability of their products and services.

4. Environmentally Responsible Cleaning Products

Cleanial is committed to selecting cleaning chemicals and systems that provide the required cleaning and hygiene performance while reducing unnecessary environmental impact.

Product selection considers factors including:

  • Effectiveness for the intended cleaning task.

  • Chemical concentration and dosing.

  • Packaging.

  • Transportation requirements.

  • Waste generation.

  • Environmental credentials.

  • Worker and client safety.

  • COSHH requirements.

Products are only used for their intended purpose and in accordance with manufacturer instructions, Safety Data Sheets and Cleanial's COSHH assessments.

Responsible chemical use benefits both the environment and the people using our services.

5. Water Conservation

Water is an important natural resource and Cleanial seeks to prevent unnecessary consumption.

Our approach includes:

  • Using only the amount of water required for the cleaning task.

  • Encouraging responsible water use.

  • Reporting leaks or defective equipment where identified.

  • Considering water efficient equipment and processes.

  • Reviewing cleaning methods to identify opportunities to reduce water use without compromising hygiene or service standards.

  • Working with clients where changes to facilities or working methods could improve water efficiency.

6. Tree Planting Initiative

Tree planting forms part of Cleanial's wider environmental commitment.

New Clients

For every new client onboarded by Cleanial Ltd, we aim to arrange for a tree to be planted on their behalf through a suitable tree planting organisation.

This allows our business growth to contribute positively to environmental restoration.

Employee Milestones

We also recognise the contribution of our people.

Where applicable, a tree will be arranged for employees successfully completing their probation period, recognising both their development within Cleanial and our shared environmental commitment.

Our tree planting programme complements rather than replaces our responsibility to reduce emissions, waste and resource consumption within our own operations.

7. Biodiversity and Local Environment

Our environmental responsibility extends beyond carbon reduction.

Cleanial will continue to explore practical opportunities to support biodiversity and environmental improvement within the communities where we operate.

This may include:

  • Supporting local conservation initiatives.

  • Tree planting.

  • Environmental volunteering.

  • Working with community organisations.

  • Encouraging staff participation in suitable environmental projects.

  • Considering biodiversity when making relevant purchasing or operational decisions.

8. Sustainable Transport

Cleaning services require people, equipment and materials to move between locations, so transport forms an important part of our environmental planning.

We aim to reduce unnecessary transport emissions by:

  • Planning efficient routes.

  • Coordinating visits wherever practical.

  • Reducing unnecessary journeys.

  • Using virtual communication where a physical journey is not required.

  • Considering lower emission vehicles when replacing or expanding company vehicles.

  • Encouraging sustainable travel options where appropriate.

9. Employee Engagement and Environmental Training

Every member of the Cleanial team has a role to play in protecting the environment.

Environmental responsibilities are communicated through our staff induction, training, company handbook and ongoing operational communications.

Employees are encouraged to:

  • Avoid unnecessary waste.

  • Use chemicals and water responsibly.

  • Follow correct dosing and product instructions.

  • Switch off unused equipment.

  • Recycle wherever suitable facilities are provided.

  • Report environmental concerns.

  • Suggest improvements to working practices.

We believe practical employee involvement is essential to achieving lasting environmental improvements.

10. Working With Our Clients

Environmental improvement works best when clients and service providers work together.

Cleanial will seek opportunities to help clients reduce the environmental impact associated with their cleaning services, including:

  • Reviewing product use.

  • Reducing unnecessary waste.

  • Improving recycling.

  • Improving chemical dosing and control.

  • Reducing unnecessary plastic consumption.

  • Reviewing water usage.

  • Considering more sustainable consumables.

  • Improving ordering and stock management.

  • Identifying practical environmental improvements during service reviews.

Recommendations will always consider hygiene, health and safety, operational requirements and the needs of the individual site.

11. Environmental Responsibility Within Our Supply Chain

Cleanial expects suppliers and business partners to operate responsibly.

Where appropriate, environmental performance may form part of supplier selection and review.

We favour suppliers that can demonstrate responsible practices relating to:

  • Environmental management.

  • Sustainable sourcing.

  • Packaging reduction.

  • Waste management.

  • Product efficiency.

  • Ethical employment.

  • Responsible manufacturing and distribution.

We will continue to engage with suppliers to identify opportunities for improvement.

12. Monitoring and Continuous Improvement

Environmental performance is not treated as a one off exercise.

Cleanial will regularly review its environmental practices and identify opportunities for improvement.

This may include reviewing:

  • Energy consumption.

  • Water use.

  • Waste.

  • Recycling.

  • Product selection.

  • Chemical consumption.

  • Transport.

  • Packaging.

  • Supplier performance.

  • Staff training.

  • Client environmental opportunities.

Where appropriate, objectives and improvement actions will be established and reviewed.

Our environmental approach will continue to evolve as new technologies, products, working practices and environmental challenges emerge.
